Who doesn’t love animals?
We know that they love us! We get visits all the time!
One of our favorite things about the Island View Cottages is our proximity to some truly breathtaking views and amazing natural wonders.
Sometimes those wonders come in the form in beautiful nature walks, one-of-a-kind photo opportunities, days out on the water, or in this case: when the wildlife comes to pay us a visit!
These photos below were submitted via the guests of the Island View Cottages, so please consider leaving us an email with details of your stay, a message on Instagram with images and stories of your time with us, or a shout out via any social media platform you own so that we can continue doing entries like this one! Entries where we tell a story thanks to the contributions of our wonderful guests!
Editors Note: I would also like to point out that not all of these animals are on our property directly, as some can be viewed from a distance, or are visible while our guests are exploring nature. Please show extreme caution when approaching any animal, and use your best judgements to avoid any harm to you or the animal in question!
The Bobcat
This first shot comes from a couple who noticed this animal wandering around while they were out during a beautiful bike ride!
They said they had their phones out because they were using our tandem bicycle (for free!) and thought it would be hilarious to try and ride it! It turns out, they did just fine, but the camera came in handy as they captured this little Bobcat sauntering down the road. They tried to take some more pics, but the cat meandered away leaving them just with a few shots.
The Sandhill Crane
This majestic bird played a big part in giving one family a treat on a Sunday morning. While out walking, they couldn’t believe how close he got to them, and that he stood still for their picture!
This endangered species occasionally finds itself at home among the Island View Community, and will usually hang out long enough for our guests to snap a picture or two. We hear that moments after this picture was taken he took off, but the couple was so mesmerized that we didn’t get an image of that. Maybe next time!
The Hawk
As you can see by our Cottage in the background, this picture was taken right on our property in the quiet early morning hours.
The person told us they awoke to check out their “good morning letter and coffee package” that is always hung outside your door, and when they looked outside they saw this hawk just hanging out. Our guest had just enough time to grab his phone and snap a picture before the hawk took off and enjoyed the remainder of his day!
The Owl
Similar to our last entry, this noble bird was just hanging out on our pier. When the couple who noticed him left the water they were just as surprised as we were: An owl, out in the day time, just hanging out and enjoying our property like everyone else?! What were the chances?!
Truthfully, it was dusk, so that might explain why he was out, but our guests were so excited they snapped some pictures and sent one over to us! We are so lucky they had the foresight to take a picture, and are excited to share this with all of you.
The Woodpecker
Our last entry is just as beautiful as the others, but might also be the loudest of them all. These busy little guys are always up to something, and they will occasionally let you hear it. While it’s never intrusive or invasive, they will produce such an iconic noise and easily alert you to their presence if you’re out and about the Cottages in the morning. If you’re indoors, you’re missing out, as they make great companions to our guests on the water, observing nature, and getting some sun.
