“The Ferndale Room” – Cottage 6
Preserving a Piece of History
When we last profiled this room, it was to remind everyone that the original Ferndale Lodge was a staple in Central and South Florida. Christy Heskel, owner of the Island View Cottages, decided she wanted to dedicate one room to preserve the property’s rich history.
After reaching out to the owners of the Ferndale Lodge, and acquiring mementos of the property’s past (i.e. paintings, photos, souvenirs, etc), Christy was ready to create a truly unique and memorable experience for all those who loved the Ferndale Lodge. Carey, Starlet, Teresa and Christy worked tirelessly to help preserve this slice of Florida’s history, and all who yearn for that nostalgic Ferndale experience will not want to miss out.
The Journey Begins:
As you tour this cottage we hope you find a bit of the original Ferndale Lodge within these walls.
A few things to remember: For fans of the original Ferndale Lodge, the nostalgia alone is enough of a reason to come stay. However, this room transcends the original Ferndale Lodge, and is a treat for the museum lover or history buff looking to stay somewhere that speaks to them. Scattered around the cottage are historical Artifacts, mementos of Florida’s and Ferndale’s past, just waiting to be explored. You’ll be fully immersed in the living history of the area!
We are so thankful to Carey, Teresa and Starlet for their efforts. This room is the result of people coming together to make sure we remember. Remember the Ferndale Lodge. Remember the rich history of the area. And lastly, remember that to go forward, you have to know where you’ve been. The Island View Cottages knows how special the property was, and is excited to continue that tradition in the years to come.
